Memories For Sale

On a weekend road trip, far away from home, you stumble upon a garage sale in a neighborhood you’re passing through. Astonished, you find an object among the belongings for sale that you recognize.

Tell us about it in the comments!

My story is the first comment...enjoy.

Happened about 10 years ago – I was wandering through an antique shop in Ottawa and came across a dozen or more old wooden school desks (the ones with the ink wells, and grooved area for your pencils). I recalled my old wooden desk from public school and how I had carved the “I love John Doe” (enter crush’s name) in the inside of the desk and had drawn “petals” around the ink well. As I glanced tentatively over the sad little misplaced desks, lo and behold there sat my desk…with my crush’s name still engraved and the petals still blooming around the ink well. The dealer want $25.00 for the desk…I hesitated and realized it would not fit in my car at that time. Smiling and recalling the fond memories of my youth, I regretfully walked out of the store… it warmed my heart to see it and sadly I still think about it to this day and wished I had jerry-rigged it to the roof of my car to get it back home to Toronto.. I hope whomever picked it up, enjoys it for what it was and what it meant to that young girl in love with “John Doe” at the tender age of 11.
